Solbian was established in 2009, born from the collaborative vision of internationally acclaimed sailor Giovanni Soldini and physicist Marco Bianucci. Their innovative idea led to the creation of Solbianflex, a flexible solar panel technology designed to enhance the sustainability and competitiveness of racing boats by reducing the need for onboard fuel. This groundbreaking technology marked the beginning of Solbian’s journey in revolutionizing solar energy applications.
From the beginning, Solbian has been dedicated to continuous technological advancement. The company invests heavily in improving polymer chemistry and keeping pace with the rapid evolution of photovoltaic technology. This commitment to innovation has enabled Solbian to expand its expertise beyond marine racing, applying their advanced solar solutions to a variety of sectors.
Today, Solbian stands as a leader in solar energy solutions for mobility, boasting thousands of successful projects worldwide.
As a crucial partner in the GAMMA project, Solbian provides its cutting-edge photovoltaic technology, reinforcing their position at the forefront of the solar energy industry.
Solbian panels are crafted by encapsulating photovoltaic cells between layers of polymer, eliminating the need for protective glass. While other companies have also explored this approach, Solbian was the pioneer in developing a flexible and lightweight photovoltaic module using crystalline silicon cells, robust enough to meet the stringent IEC certifications (61215 and 62730) as early as 2011.
The unique aspect of Solbian’s technology lies in the proprietary polymer layers that encapsulate and protect the cells. This exclusive, patented formula has been developed and refined over the years and continually evolving to stay ahead of technological advancements.
The panels’ construction involves multiple polymer layers and various surface treatments that form a protective shell around the fragile crystalline cells, which are less than 0.2 mm thick. This intricate encapsulation process transforms the delicate cells into flexible, lightweight, and durable panels.
